The US’ Shrimp Imports from January 2021 till July 2024

After a 14% YoY drop in June, US shrimp imports fell behind 2023 once again, by 12%, in July. The year's total imports are now 4% behind 2023, 19% behind 2022, and 16% behind 2021.

In June, imports from Ecuador and India dropped YoY by 20% and 15%, respectively. However, imports from India remained stable in July while imports from Ecuador dropped again, this time by even 30%. The drop in Ecuador’s exports is most likely linked to the preliminary anti-dumping duties applied to Ecuador’s exports to the US. The year-total imports from Ecuador in July for the first time in 2024 fell behind 2023 by 5%. Imports from India remain 1% ahead of 2023’s year-total imports from India. India’s share of the Jan-Jul year-total of US imports grew from 36% to 38% from 2023 to 2024. Ecuador’s share of US Jan-Jul US imports remained at 27%.

Looking at the other two major suppliers to the US, Indonesia and Vietnam, both countries saw imports into the US drop in July 2024 by 10% and 16%, respectively. However, the trend between the two countries is different. US imports from Indonesia dropped YoY every month in 2024. The year total is now behind 15% YoY. Monthly imports from Vietnam only dropped YoY for the third time in 2024. The US’s Jan-Jul year-total imports from Vietnam is still up 4% YoY.
