
The most recent data on Indonesia’s exports shows that the volume of L. vannamei shrimp approved for exports in the third quarter of the year reached 43,138 MT and is down 11% Y-Y. The export volume was down in July, August, and September, respectively, 19%, 1%, and 12%. The year total has now reached 130,776 MT, 17% behind 2022. We will have to wait and see whether Indonesia’s exports in Q4 slightly increase as was usual over the past couple of years.
Exports from Indonesia to the US are down by 13% but still account for 76% of Indonesia’s total exports in 2023. Exports to Japan are down by 16%, accounting for 12% of Indonesia’s exports. An exciting growth market seems to be Malaysia, which is the third largest market this year with 3,581 MT. On the contrary, exports to China continue to fluctuate year on year, with this year only 2,763 MT compared to 10,379 MT over the same period of 2022.
