With 443,321 MT, the EU is still ahead of its 2023 Penaeus imports from Asia and Latin America by 7%. If imports in December will at least be at par with 2023’s imports in December, the year will close at a record of around 475,000 MT, marginally above the previous record of 2022. However, in November, for the first time in 2024, imports did not increase year over year. Imports reached 45,903 MT, 7% less than in November 2023. If this trend continues, 2024 may close just below the previous record of 2022. Some more details:

The most notable change is the drop in imports from Venezuela, which is a direct result of the expropriation of the Rincon Family’s Lamar Group, which was responsible for most of Venezuela’s shrimp exports. It is to be expected that the export volume from Venezuela in December will drop further.
