Ecuador’s Exports in October 2024 Drop 12% YoY. Year-Total Now 1% Behind 2023.

In October 2024, Ecuador’s shrimp exports reached 86,071 MT, down 13% year over year. October’s export volume is the lowest monthly volume since November 2022. The year total has now reached 999,238 MT, down 1% year over year.

Export markets:

  • China
    • October 2024: 45,456 MT = -13%
    • Year total: 535,798 = -10% YoY
  • USA
    • October 2024: 13,380 MT = -26%
    • Year total: 178,552 MT = 4%
  • EU
    • October 2024: 17,334 MT = 3%
    • Year total: 169,622 MT = 13% YoY

Exports to the US and China have been falling in recent months, but exports to the EU have increased. Most of the growth in the EU in 2024 is driven by France (20%), Netherlands (39%), Lithuania (217%) and Portugal (73%). The top five importers in the EU now are Spain, France, Italy, Netherlands, and Lithuania, with respective shares of total imports of 30%, 20%, 20%, 7%, and 7%.

Other countries that continue to grow imports from Ecuador are Taiwan (from 232MT to 10,000MT), Japan (from 5,675MT to 11,377MT), the UAE (from 5,907MT to 7,890MT), and Morocco (from 2,918MT to 4,174MT). Ecuador is clearly working to diversify its markets.
