Despite Shortage of Raw Materials, Still No Sign of Drop in Indian Exports

As is usual for India in recent years, exports continued to increase in July. Considering the typical trend, the July export volume could be the year’s record or, if the trend continues as in 2023, could grow for one more month. In July, India exported 70,070 MT, up 5% YoY. The year total in July reached 405,468 MT, up 4% YoY.

Raw L. vannamei shipments primarily drive the increase in exports. In July, exports of raw L. vannamei and value-added products increased by 5% YoY, while exports of P. monodon dropped 30% YoY, and exports of wild-caught shrimp increased 15% YoY. In terms of year-totals in July, exports of raw L. vannamei were up 5% YoY, exports of value-added shrimp were up 1% YoY, exports of raw P. monodon were down 9% YoY, and exports of wild-caught shrimp were down 3% YoY.

In terms of export markets, in July, exports to the US were up 3% YoY, exports to China were down 8% YoY, exports to other Asian markets were down by 5%, and exports to the EU were up by 43% YoY. In terms of year-totals in July, the US was up by 3%, China was up by 7%, other Asian markets were down by 7%, and the EU was up by 11%.
