China’s Shrimp Imports in November 2024 Up 7% YoY. Year-Total Behind 10%.

In November 2024, China imported 79,155 MT, a 7% year-over-year increase. This is the first time since January 2024 that monthly imports in 2024 outperformed imports in the same month in 2023. The year total has reached 826,361 MT, 10% down from 2023. This is still China’s second-highest January-November shrimp import volume. Some further details:

    • November 2024: 54,388 MT = +9%

    • November 2024: 14,267 MT = +22%
    • Year-total: 127,556 MT = -4%
  • Argentina
    • November 2024: 3,246 MT = +26%
    • Year-total: 16,254 MT = -41%
  • Thailand
    • November 2024: 2,147 MT = -2%
    • Year-total: 20,346 MT = -14%
  • Vietnam
    • November 2024: 449 MT = -57%
    • Year-total: 7,856 MT = -23%

Average prices continue their positive trend. Imports of shrimp from Ecuador are valued at $4.89 per kg, up from 4.54 per kg in October 2024. India's exports increased to $6 per kg, up from $5.88 per kg in October 2024. Considering that Chinese New Year demand peaked in December, Ecuador and India will most likely close their imports into China with this positive trend.
